The Workshop
Generative AI is maths, not magic. If you want to use software like ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Gemini or DeepSeek effectively, you need to understand how it works. This doesn't mean you have to become an engineer. In fact, the basic principles of Generative AI are surprisingly intuitive.
This workshop gives you exactly the insights you need. It will teach you how Large Language Models (LLMs) are trained and what different types of models exist. We'll discuss their strengths and weaknesses and how you can choose the right model for your goals.
Through a series of hands-on exercises, you'll practise the core techniques of prompt and context engineering. You'll learn how to formulate effective instructions, structure your inputs and bring together the right information to get optimal and reliable results. By the end, you will not only understand Generative AI much better, but also know how to make it work for you.
Generatieve AI is wiskunde, geen magie. Als je software zoals ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Gemini of DeepSeek effectief wilt gebruiken, moet je begrijpen hoe het werkt. Dit betekent niet dat je een ingenieur moet worden. De basisprincipes van Generatieve AI zijn verrassend intuïtief.
Deze workshop geeft je precies de inzichten die je nodig hebt. Je leert hoe Large Language Models (LLM's) worden getraind en welke verschillende soorten modellen er bestaan. We bespreken hun sterke en zwakke punten en hoe je het juiste model voor jouw doelen kunt kiezen.
Door middel van een reeks praktische oefeningen oefen je de kerntechnieken van prompt- en context-engineering. Je leert hoe je effectieve instructies formuleert, je input structureert en de juiste informatie samenbrengt om optimale en betrouwbare resultaten te krijgen. Aan het einde begrijp je niet alleen Generatieve AI veel beter, maar weet je ook hoe je het voor jezelf kunt laten werken.
De lesgever
The instructor
Yves Peirsman has been active in Artificial Intelligence for over two decades. He holds an MSc in Speech and Language Processing from the University of Edinburgh, and obtained a PhD in Computational Linguistics from KU Leuven, with a research stay at Stuttgart University. He concluded his academic career as a post-doctoral researcher in the NLP Group at Stanford University.
After moving to industry, Yves worked as a research engineer at Textkernel (Netherlands) and Wolters Kluwer (Belgium). As the founder of NLP Town, he helped companies in multiple industries leverage AI technologies. Today he is the co-founder and CTO of AI startup Deontic.
Yves has trained one of the most widely used models for sentiment analysis, with over 54M downloads. He is also the co-founder and organizer of the Belgium NLP Meetups, an AI community of over 2,500 members in Belgium. In his free time, he likes to run, read and write. He has published three novels so far.
Yves Peirsman is al meer dan twee decennia actief in Artificiële Intelligentie. Hij behaalde een MSc in Spraak- en Taalverwerking aan de Universiteit van Edinburgh, en promoveerde in de Computerlinguïstiek aan de KU Leuven, met een onderzoeksverblijf aan de Universiteit van Stuttgart. Hij sloot zijn academische carrière af als postdoctoraal onderzoeker in de NLP-groep van Stanford University.
Na zijn overstap naar de industrie werkte Yves als research engineer bij Textkernel (Nederland) en Wolters Kluwer (België). Als oprichter van NLP Town hielp hij bedrijven in uiteenlopende sectoren AI-technologie in te zetten. Vandaag is hij medeoprichter en CTO van AI-startup Deontic.
Yves ontwikkelde een van de meest gebruikte modellen voor sentimentanalyse, met meer dan 54 miljoen downloads. Hij is oprichter en organisator van de Belgium NLP Meetups, een AI-community van meer dan 2.500 leden. In zijn vrije tijd houdt hij van hardlopen, lezen en schrijven. Hij heeft drie romans gepubliceerd.
